ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the City Police Officer (CPO) Multan to decide on the application regarding the registration of blasphemy case against Sherry Rehman, Pakistan’s Ambassador to United States, in accordance with law.

It is to be noted that Mohammad Faheem Akhtar Gill had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Lahore High Court, Multan Bench, in person and has prayed that Punjab police be directed to register a criminal case against Sherry Rehman under Section 295C of Pakistan Penal Code.
A two-member bench of the apex court, Justice Anwar Zahir Jamali and Justice Eajaz Afzal Khan, has allowed the appeal against LHC decision, which had stated since the programme ‘Dunya Mera Agay’ by a private TV channel was aired in Islamabad this court would have no jurisdiction to take cognisance of the matter in terms of law laid down by the august Supreme Court in Sandalbar Enterprises therefore the petitioner is advised to seek remedy before a court of competent jurisdiction.
The apex court SC on Thursday observed that Punjab police had the jurisdiction to proceed in to this matter. The petitioner also made District and Session judge Multan, Capital City Police Officer Multan, Station House Officer Police Multan and Sherry Rehman as respondents
According to the applicant, on 30.11.2010 at about 11:00 p.m. there was talk show on air on Duniya T.V. and respondent No. 4 while talking in the T.V show with deliberate and malicious intention outraged the religious feelings
The LHC in its judgement against the Additional Sessions Judge, in disposing of the case wrote, “Anyone who utters any derogatory remarks against the Holy Prophet (PBUH) or shows any disrespect to him in any way whatsoever is liable to be taken to taken under 295C. ..since the programme ‘Dunya Mera Agay’ by a private TV channel was aired at Islamabad this court would have no jurisdiction to take cognisance of the matter in terms of law laid down by the august Supreme Court in Sandalbar Enterprises therefore the petitioner is advised to seek remedy before a court of competent jurisdiction.”
