22 die in Kahuta, Gilgit bus plunges

RAWALPINDI - At least 22 people were killed and 50 others wounded in separate road accidents in Kahuta and Gilgit on Tuesday. At least 11 people were killed when their Rawalpindi-bound speeding bus plunged into a deep ravine in Kahuta city’s suburban area of Punjar. According to police, the bus was carrying over 50 people. The rescue teams said at least 40 passengers were injured.  The ill-fated bus was going to Rawalpindi from Narh village, when it went out of driver’s control and fell into a gorge, killing six people on the spot.  Agencies add from Gilgit: Another 11 people were killed and 10 injured in a roadside accident in Astore area of Gilgit. A passenger wagon was going to Astore from Pareshag when it fell into the river after it went out of control owing to overloading. The dead and the injured including a woman were shifted to DHQ Hospital Astore. Efforts were underway to rescue other passengers from the river.President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf have expressed their grief over loss of lives. In their separate messages, the president and prime minister expressed sympathies with the victim families and ordered authorities to provide best medical treatment to the injured.
