Army to continue rehabilitation, reconstruction work in SWA: COAS

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Monday said that after flushing out terrorists and maintaining peace in South Waziristan, Pakistan Army is now carrying out rehabilitation and reconstruction work for the uplift of people of the area. While meeting the tribal elders after inauguration of a cadet college at Spinkai and ground breaking of Tank-Gomal-WANA road here in South Waziristan, he said army did not want to initiate operations within the country. However, here it was to improve the situation and eliminate any chance of reoccurrence of terrorism in the area, he added. Gen Kayani said that army was deployed here on the demand of the locals and would remain present here till their wish and completion of development projects. He said the building of the cadet college was being completed at a cost of Rs 500 million and it was second such college in the area. The classes for the first batch had already been started while the second batch would join in August, he added.
