Police foil terror bid; 10-kg explosive material seized

RAWALPINDI - Police saved the city from a major devastation by recovering 10-kg explosive material and arresting two people on Thursday at Tangi Road within the limits of Police Station Kahuta.

Rawalpindi Police recovered 10 kilograms explosive material from a vehicle coming from Kashmir, foiling a possible terrorism bid. According to a police spokesman, Kahuta Police during its routine checking stopped a vehicle bearing registration number RIL-6773 near
Sakhi Sabzwari Darbar and seized the explosive material and arrested two accused Sher Zaman resident of Bajur Agency and Muhammad Nadeem resident of Azad Jammu Kashmir.
The police claimed that it have successfully foiled a terrorism plan. When contacted, SHO Kahuta Police Station Raja Saleem said the arrested persons are being interrogated from all aspects.
According to preliminary investigation, the accused said that the explosive material was not meant to carry out any subversive activity but it was for the blasting purpose used in road construction especially in mountainous areas.
The SHO said that the arrested persons have no such license and No Objection Certificate (NOC) to carry explosive material for the purpose. Police presented the accused before the Area Magistrate and got their physical remand for further investigation.
