BEIJING - Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Zhao Qizheng has said that China values Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terrorism as well as its contribution towards ensuring peace and stability in the region.
Zhao expressed these views during a meeting with Pakistan’s acting Ambassador to China Zahoor Ahmed, who called on him here Wednesday.
Zhao is leading a delegation to Pakistan later this month and will hold meetings with country’s top leadership.
Expressing best wishes for the successful visit of the delegation to Pakistan, Zahoor Ahmed said that Pakistan-China friendship was spread over six decades and had deep roots in the hearts of the two nations.
He said that all the segments of the Pakistani society and the entire political spectrum of the country unanimously supported further strengthening of ties with China in all fields.
Zhao Qizheng said that Pakistan and China were old friends and good neighbours. He said although relations between the two countries were very strong, “we must take steps to take them to a higher level”.
He said that the CPPCC was the major political advisory body of the government of China. Its purpose is to provide a forum for full consultation with representative figures from different segments of the society before the state adopts any important measures that may have a bearing on the economy and the people’s welfare, he noted.
Zhao has vast experience in media development and regarded as the father of public diplomacy in China. Prior to this, he remained Vice Mayor of Shanghai, Member of CPPCC National Committee, CPC Committee, Director of the Information Office of the State Council and Director of the International Communication Office of the CPC Central Committee.
