RAWALPINDI - Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has reduced the service tenure of officers serving as brigadiers and colonels by one year while the service tenure of majors has been increased by two years.

Some 300 officers of the Pakistan Army serving as brigadiers and colonels will retire one year earlier.
The tenure of brigadiers will now be thirty years, of colonels twenty seven years. The service of major-ranked officers was increased to 25 years.
The new service order would help overcome the shortage of field officers. Most of the field positions and situations are held by majors while colonels and brigadiers hold commanding positions.
