LAKKI MARWAT – Police on Wednesday foiled a bid of miscreants to deprive hundreds of students of education by blowing up their school with explosives in Khajakhel area.
“A heavy contingent of police force rushed to Khajakhel in the vicinity of Tajori police station after local police officials were informed that unknown miscreants had planted two indigenously made bombs in the building of Government Boys Primary School Kotka Gul Zafar,” said an official.
He said the law enforcers surrounded the entire locality and called personnel of bomb disposal squad to defuse the explosives devices. “Both bombs weighed 15 kg each and stop watches, detonators and explosive cord were connected to them,” he maintained.
He said that the school’s building would have been destroyed completely had the bombs exploded. He said that Tajori police registered a case against unknown miscreants under relevant section of law and started investigation.
It is pertinent to mention here that militants have targeted several schools in the district this year. On the other hand, police and other law enforcement agencies also saved buildings of several boy’s and girl’s schools from destruction at the hands of miscreants by taking timely and prompt action to defuse explosives planted in them.
An ESED official said that district education department had taken stringent measures to protect schools’ buildings from being fallen prey to terror acts. “All-out efforts are being made to ensure presence of watchmen in the schools at night,” he maintained.
He said that the watchmen had been permitted to keep dogs with them in the schools during performing night duty.
He added that ESED officials also paid surprise inspection visits to government schools at night to check the presence of watchmen.
