Policemen extorting Eidi at checkpoints

NANKANA SAHIB - Police officials are allegedly extorting money in the name of Eidi at police check-posts and pickets from the public across the district. As per the complaints by the public especially traders, the police staff at the check post of Chandar Kot is collecting money after creating problems for the common citizens, motorcyclists and motorists.  They are facing severe problems at Chandar Kot police check post and other check posts of the district in the name of Eidi.  Police and traffic police staff demand money in the name of unnecessary verification and checking of vehicles’ registration documents and frisking. Representatives of traders, civil society, religious and political parties and lawyers expressed their great concern over the situation and demanded that the authorities concerned should take notice of the situation. They also demanded a strict action as per law against corrupt officials who are creating problems rather than facilitating the masses.
