Sources aware of the deliberations of the meeting, held here at Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa House Islamabad, informed TheNation on Sunday that Nisar had once again expressed his party’s desire to see him (Achakzai) in the slot of caretaker Prime Minister. However, the PkMP chief has not given any final decision on the matter and insisted to contest elections and become part of the next National Assembly.
It is pertinent to mention here that Mahmood Achakzai a few days back had held meetings with Prime Minsiter Raja Pervez Ashraf and other central PPP leaders and a message from PPP circles came that PkMP chief had given his consent to be the caretaker prime minister in the larger interest of the country and future of democracy.
Previously when Nisar had initiated the consultation process with all the opposition parties with the aim to evolve consensus on the caretaker PM, he had approached Achakzai but at that time he had refused to be part of any caretaker setup. So, after consultation with the stakeholders in Opp parties even those political parties which have no representation in the Parliament, Nisar had short-listed the names of Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid and Justice (retd) Shakirullah Jan as candidates for the slot of caretaker prime minister from the opposition side. Sources said that following the recent developments in national politics, including Tahirul Qadri’s appearance on political scene, Mahmood Khan Achakzai jumped into the fray and revisited his earlier decision. In the changed situation, the PML-N leadership had also decided to revise its earlier short-listed candidates and Nisar’s meeting with Achakzai was also made in this backdrop.
The sources in PML-N confirmed that in a next few days the Leader of Opposition would be holding meetings with other opposition parties leadership to have a fresh word on the Opposition’s candidates for the caretaker prime minister.
The sources in Jamiat-I-Ulema-I-Islam (Fazl) confirmed that Nisar is meeting Moulana Fazlur Rehman today.
