SWAT – Supporting the Supreme Court’s verdict that ousted Yousuf Raza Gilani as prime minister, PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif termed it success of his party.
Addressing a massive public gathering in Mingora on Wednesday, Nawaz said the PML-N had been demanding Gilani should quit since he had been convicted. “Gilani should have quit, but he brazenly refused to do so, which was a shameful act,” he added.
Nawaz said that Gilani left behind the legacy of loadshedding and price-hike. He said that people did not vote the PPP to power to get troubles in return. The PML-N rally was a well-attended affair as approximately 20,000 supporters showed up, chanting slogans and hoisting party flags. Nawaz said that apart from other issues, even Haj scandal surfaced up during Gilani’s regime.
Criticising coalition partners of the PPP, Nawaz said: “I told them to think of Pakistan and not to shake hands with the Zardari government. How anybody can make an alliance with a government which has earned a bad name for Pakistan and destroyed the future of its youth. Everyone can see what has happened to Pakistan under their leadership,” he remarked.
Nawaz further said: “I remember this place where I am standing now as I visited the place 14 years ago. I came here first in 1997 before the general elections, and the people of Swat gave us all seats.” Congratulating Amir Muqam for joining the right political party (PML-N), he said: “I have a lot of respect for Amir Muqam. He is my brother.”
Nawaz said that the cricketer (Imran Khan) does not know about politics, so how can people believe him. He also questioned all such claims that the country’s lot could be changed in 90 days.
Imran has recently said that once in power, his party will end corruption in 19 days and terrorism in 90 days.
“The young people are aware of the fact that who is honest to Pakistan and who will serve the country better,” Nawaz said, adding that Pakistan became the first Muslim country to become a nuclear power during the PML-N government.
“Today Karachi is bleeding. Who is responsible for it. This is the biggest failure of the PPP-led government,” Nawaz added.
He said that when the floods came, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif started relief activities in Nowshera and Mardan, and did not leave the Pakhtun brothers in the lurch.
Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, while speaking on the occasion, came down on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
“Those who talk about tsunami all the time are not aware of the real politics,” he said. “Imran always talks about cricket, but he does not know that politics is about serving people.”
Nisar said: “Nawaz is the only leader who does not make hollow statements and honours his promises; that is why the entire world respects him as a true leader and real politician.”
On this occasion, Amir Muqam congratulated Nawaz Sharif for the success of “go Gilani go” campaign, adding that Gilani has gone but the next prime minister must have to write the letter to the Swiss authorities.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi and PML N KPK chapter President Pir Sabir Shah were also present.
