Islamabad - No decision was made during the third meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah on the appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman. The opposition leader reportedly put forward the name of Justice (r) Mian Mohammad Ajmal, and Nawaz Sharif did not name anyone. There will be another meeting to discuss this matter further. Talking to media in Islamabad‚ leader of the opposition Khursheed Shah said the Prime Minister did not propose any name for the NAB chairman. He said that Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal does not fulfill the requirement for the post and he will discuss new name for the office with the Prime Minister during the next meeting.
He however said that the name of retired Justice Muhammad Raza Khan is still included on the list for appointment of NAB chairman. He said he will also propose another name for the post in the next meeting. To a question regarding overcoming terrorism‚ Khursheed Shah said Pakistan Peoples Party will extend full cooperation to the government to root out this menace and bring peace. Earlier, in the wake of the Supreme Court's order, the Ministry of Law and Justice had proposed to the Prime Minister to advise the President to terminate the appointment of Fasih Bokhari as NAB Chairman. NAB, the country's top anti-graft watchdog, has almost become dysfunctional after the Supreme Court dismissed the then NAB Chairman Fasih Bokhari through its May 28 judgment. During a previous meeting between the PM and the Opposition Leader, the names of Sardar Raza and Rehman Hussain Jaffri came under discussion but a consensus was not reached. Previously, the opposition leader nominated Justice (retd) Bhagwandas as a candidate for the post. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in July formally informed Syed Khursheed Shah that Justice (retd) Bhagwandas did not fulfill the mandatory criteria for holding the post of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman, since the former judge had recently retired as Federal Public Service Commission Chairman.
