LAHORE - The estranged PPP couple, Naheed Khan and Dr Safdar Abbasi Friday censured the present PPP leadership for its ‘deviation’ from the ideology of party founder ZA Bhutto and the legacy of Benazir Bhuttto.
Addressing party workers at a ceremony organised at Alhamra Hall to mark 59th birth anniversary of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, they said it was time to liberate the PPP from what they called a ‘qabza group’ headed by Asif Ali Zardari.
“We are loyal only to the two graves at Garhi Khuda Bux and the ideology and legacy of party founder ZA Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto Shaheed”, said Naheed. They would not allow a group of people to hold the party hostage, she added.
She also criticised Asif Zardari for his government’s failure to arrest Benazir’s killers and warned that it could come up as a big issue in the upcoming general elections.
Expressing his discontent over the way party was being run under President Zardari, Safdar Abbasi said that heavens would not fall if some other person from Bhutto family or the party took command of the PPP. He said PPP was a party of the masses but now the impression was getting stronger that it had become a party confined only to a single family. He said PPP was a party of the masses and the labourers but now it had been restricted only to power corridors.
The two estranged leaders, however, said they would stand with the PPP and did not want to weaken the party in any way.
