It is worth mentioning here that office-bearers of Air League of PIA employees had challenged the referendum held on March 9th, 2012 won by Peoples Unity on the ground that National Industrial Relation Commission (NIRC) was not fully functional at the time of when referendum was held.
The writ was filed in the end of April on which court considered the writ and suspended CBA certificate of Peoples Unity and also issued notice to CBA, PIA management and NIRC management for June 25th of this month.
When this scribe contacted President of Peoples Unity Lahore chapter, Sajid Mehmood Gujjar, he said that court had not summoned them on the day when certificate was suspended.
However, he said that they would face the challenge and provide evidences to court to justify their office.
He said that Air League office-bearer Shamim Akmal had written a letter to GM Industrial Relations PIA wherein he appreciated the referendum process, terming it a transparent and fair.
He said that before polling day of referendum both unions office-bearers attended the hearing of NIRC in connection with briefing of NIRC that depicts that Air league office-bearers were interested in the referendum.
Air League office-bearers also requested NIRC to allot them electoral symbol of Gumbad-e-Khizra and a copy of that request was also proof of their interest in referendum, he added.
Sajid Gujjar said apart from all things his union was ready to go for fresh referendum and Air League would not be able to get even those votes which it obtained during last referendum.
