25 killed, over 40 injured in Sheikhupura road accident

At least 25 people were killed and over 40 others injured in an overnight roadside accident on Faisalabad Road.

Police said that the accident took place at about 2:00 a.m. (local time) when a bus hit a roadside pole near Shekupura, a district located some 40 kilometers northwest of Lahore.
The bus was on the way from Lahore to Faisalabad, a key industrial city in central Punjab province.
Media quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the bus overturned after it smashed onto a pole on the roadside.
Police believed that over-speed was the main culprit for the accident.
According to the Rescue sources, the accident occurred when a passenger coach ran into a power pylon, killing 25 people on the spot and injuring 40 others.
Bodies of the deceased and the injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital, where several are in critical state.
