PESHAWAR - At least seven mortar shells were fired from Afghan soil which landed in the border area of Ghulam Khan in North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday afternoon, security officials said.

Cross-border shelling has heightened tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan as the two countries accuse each other of firing. Islamabad has been repeatedly asking Kabul to stop cross-border shelling, the Afghan officials however denies any involvement and blames Pakistan for violating border sovereignty. Local officials said dozen people including security personnel have been killed or injured following missiles attacks by Afghan National Army and Afghan militants during the past months.
