ECP recommends to government to dissolve assemblies by Feb. 15

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) suggested to the government to dissolve the assemblies by February 15.

According to a private television channel, the suggestion was floated during a meeting with the federal ministers who called on Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim.
The CEC demanded the government to establish a caretaker set up by mid-February, adding the Punjab should be taken on board so that all national and provincial assemblies are simultaneously dissolved.
The Justice (rtd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim said the ECP wants to hold the general elections for national and provincial on a single day, as it will help dispel the impression of rigging.
He furthermore added the sooner caretaker set up is established, the lesser will be the likelihoods for rigging in the general elections.
Talking to media after the meeting, the federal ministers said it will be President Asif Ali Zardari who will make a final decision regarding the dissolution of assemblies and caretaker set up.
The ministers assured that they will contact the commission after the consultation with the leadership of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and President Zardari.
