KARACHI – Two people including a worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement were gunned down in separate acts of violence in the metropolis on Wednesday.

Police said that the victim namely Ameer Murad, 26, was sitting at his tyre shop when unidentified assailants riding a motorbike came and opened fire. Resultantly, he sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot. After getting information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy and later handed over to heirs. A man was shot dead near Aqsa mosque, Muzaffarabad Colony in Quaidabad police precincts.
Police said that deceased identified as Jamil Zada, 28, was going somewhere while unidentified armed riders started indiscriminate firing on him and managed to flee from the scene. He died on the spot. The body was handed over to family after medicolegal formalities at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Police said the victim had criminal record, and the motive behind the incident was personal dispute.
Meanwhile, Dr Ibn-e-Hassan, medical superintendent of Sindh Government Hospital, Noth Karachi who was gunned down near Iram Shopping Centre was laid to rest at Wadi-e-Hussain graveyard. He was shot dead in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Similarly, Joint Secretary Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Sindh along with his father were shot dead at Defense phase-VI, Khyaban-e-Jami have also been laid to rest.
The victims including Mian Taimor and his father Mian Arbab were shot dead in the wee hours of Tuesday and taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced the death of both.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Medical Association has strongly condemned the murder of a senior doctor in Karachi and announced to stage protest against the killing of doctors.
This was stated an emergency meeting of Pakistan Medical Association here on Wednesday, which was addressed by Dr Samrina Hashmi President PMA Sindh, Dr Mujtaba Memon President Sindh Doctors’ Welfare Association, Dr Nawaz Mallah Secretary SDWA, Dr Ismail Memon Joint Secretary PMA Karachi, Dr Habib Soomro former secretary general PMA Centre and others. It strongly condemned the brutal murder of Dr. Syed Hasan Alam on Tuesday in Karachi. It also condemns the killing of Dr. Shah Nawaz Ali on Tuesday in Peshawar. Earlier this month Dr. Riaz Hussain Shah was also shot dead in Peshawar.
PMA showed deep concern over the deteriorating situation of law and order in the country, saying it seems as there is no rule of law in the country. Doctor’s killing has become the order of the day. The government has failed to provide any security to doctors. Doctors being an easy target become the victims of targeted killing. This situation is not acceptable to the PMA. It should come to an end otherwise PMA will launch countrywide protest against these atrocities.
Meanwhile, PMA decided in the meeting that a Protest General Body of All doctors associations will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 12 Noon, at Sindh Govt Hospital New Karachi. This General Body will record its protest against the continuous killing of highly trained personnel in the health sector. It will be followed by a press conference. Minister Health Dr Saghier Ahmad has consented to attend this General Body. Secretary Health and other health officials and doctors of Public, private and City district govt are invited for the general meeting.
The PMA’s General meeting condemned the continuous target killing of Trained, high profile doctors and demanded of the Government to provide security to the doctors and exemplary punishment for the criminals involved in these killings.
The meeting demanded the urgent arrest of the culprits and active and visible measures to combat these killings. The meeting also demanded monetary compensation of One crore for the doctor’s family and Govt job to one of the family members of at least BPS 17.
