PM briefs president on polls

Islamabad – Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the President’s House on Wednesday and informed him about the steps taken by the government to hold transparent polls on time. Presidential spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the president appreciated the resolve of the government to ensure free, fair and timely elections, besides thwarting attempts of impeding polls.The spokesperson said that prime minister apprised the president about deliberations of today’s meeting of Council of Common Interests, besides briefing him on the deliberations of the party’s core committee meeting held at the Prime Minister’s House, focusing on holding free and fair elections.Babar said that the meeting had urged the prime minister to begin consultations with all political parties for holding trouble free polls in a fair, free and transparent manner within the time frame stipulated in the Constitution. Later, the president hosted dinner for the prime minister.
