FBR bosses recommended for ECL

ISLAMABAD – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has asked the Interior Ministry to place the names of three senior officials of Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) on exit control list (ECL) in connection with the case relating to Rs 47 billion tax evasion by five telecom companies.
On Monday, the NAB forwarded their names to Ministry of Interior. They are: former FBR chairman Mumtaz Haider Rizvi, Member Inland Revenue Shahid Hussain Asad and Chief Sales Tax/FED Abdul Sattar Aora.
Earlier on July 4, NAB Chairman NAB Admiral (r) Fasih Bokhari had taken suo moto notice to safeguard Rs 47 billion for the people of Pakistan and asked the FBR chief to appear in person to explain details about defaulted amount. Rizvi appeared in person and agreed to the NAB’s point of view.
It is worth mentioning that the NAB chairman directed the FBR authorities to act upon a four-point agenda.  He said no waiver whatsoever would be granted to cellular companies on grounds of interconnect charges, while the FBR would depute lawyer to get stay vacated by producing evidence in the honourable court, which had been pointed by the NAB.
Furthermore, it would approach the NAB where the necessity of recovery arises and work closely with the investigation body in larger interest of safeguarding the national exchequer.
