QUETTA - Four policemen were shot dead by armed assailants at Eastern Bypass in the outskirts of Quetta on Sunday.
“The deceased policemen were patrolling the Bypass area on motorbikes when unidentified armed men sprayed them with bullets,” police officials said, adding two policemen were killed on the spot and two others succumbed to their injuries while being shifted to hospital.
“Four policemen have been killed in the ambush,” SP Sariab Sikandar Tareen confirmed.
Police and personnel of Frontier Corps rushed to the site after getting the information and cordoned off the area. However, the assailants fled after committing the crime.
The bodies were shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and Civil Hospital for autopsy. The slain cops were identified as constables Abdullah Mengal, Shahjehan, Mumtaz and Abdullah Pirkani.
“Investigation into the incident is under way to unearth real motive behind the killings,” police officials said.
Talking to media, CCPO Quetta Zubair Mehmood said that the same group could be involved in the killing of policemen which targeted four policemen at Badini link Road Quetta on June 9th.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack till the report was filed.
