Sack-packed body of a 42-year-old man, identified as Abdul Ghani Soomro, son of Allah Rakha, a resident of Khadda market of Lyari area, was found near Netty-Jetty bridge.
According to police officials, the victim, who belonged to the Katchi community, went missing on Saturday. His captors brutally tortured him before cutting his throat, said SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi, adding that the victim used to run an electronics shop in Saddar area. The officer further said it was yet to be ascertained whether Soomro was killed by extortionists. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy, and later handed over to the heirs. A case has registered against unidentified assassins.
Separately, two bodies were recovered within the remits of the Manghopir Police Station. Identities of the victims could not be ascertained until the filing of this report. Police officials, however, claimed that one of the victims was of Afghan origin, while the other belonged to the Mehsud tribe. The two bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, and later moved to a morgue for identification.
According to SSP Amir Farooqi, the victims were killed after being whisked away to at an undisclosed location. Further investigation is in progress.
Another gunny bag body was recovered near Lyari River within the precincts of the Pak Colony Police Station. The victim had been shot in the temple, police officials said. The body was shifted to a morgue for identification after the completion of medico-legal formalities at the Civil Hospital Karachi. According to SHO Abdul Moid, the body was around two days old. The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained till the filing of this report. Separately, body of a man was recovered from Mufeed-e-Aam ground in Malir area. Identity of the victim, who received a bullet in the head, was yet to be ascertained. According to SHO Hassan Haider, the victim appeared to be 32-year-old.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and later moved to a morgue for identification purposes. A murder case has been lodged. In a firing incident in Baldia Town, a man, namely Aslam Bhatti, was fatally wounded. Police officials said the incident was part of the ongoing wave of targeted attacks. He was taken to the CHK for treatment. A youth, Salman, 25, son of Musharraf, was injured in a dacoity bid near Drigh Road. Police officials said that unidentified armed men opened fire on him when he offered resistance.
Another youth, 26-year-old Waseem, son of Raees and Shahid, 32, son of Ameen, were injured by firing of unidentified gunmen within the jurisdiction of the Kharadar Police Station.
In Gulberg area, another young man, namely Tayyab, 24, son of Mushtaq, was injured in a firing incident. He was ferried to the ASH for treatment.
