LAHORE – Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has appointed Captain Junaid Younus as managing director of the Pakistan International Airlines while DefenseSecretary Lieutenant General(r)Asif Yasin Malik will hold the office of the PIA chairman.

Captain Junaid was working as the PIA deputy managing director when he was appointed as acting MD, following the resignation of former MDAir Marshal (r) Rao Qamar Suleman last month.
The captain had the charge of the PIA managing director since September 19 and he did well in managing the PIA pre-Hajj Operation.
“Although the PIA was being run without a regular managing director during the pre-Hajj operation, the punctuality rate of flights was more than 98 percent,” a senior PIA official said. Such a punctuality rate during HajjOperation has been witnessed after several years and the credit goes to the acting MD and Haj flight managers, he added.
‘The Nation’ learnt that four people, Captain Junaid Younis, former PIA MD Ijaz Haroon, former PIA marketing director Jalal Haider and a business tycoon from Lahore, Ehsan Ashraf, were in the race of the PIA MD post. Sources revealed the prime minister had issued the orders for the appointment of Shahzada Ehsan Ashraf as the PIA MD, but he was stopped from taking charge by the Defence Ministry.
