LAHORE – Ch Ahmad Saeed, the elder brother of Federal Minister for Water and Power, Ch Ahmad Mukhtar, has joined the PML-N, reposing full confidence in the leadership of PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif while giving a new twist to the future electoral politics of Gujrat.The former Chairman PIA and ADBP took this decision just three days after his close relative and PPP stalwart from Gujrat, Nawabzada Ghazanfar Gull also joined the PML-N.The decision taken by Ch Ahmad Saeed to come to the folds of Nawaz Sharif-led Muslim League is considered as a big embarrassment for the PPP as well as catalyst to improve political position of Nawaz League in Gujrat where the Chaudhry cousins or the PPP traditionally hold the sway. With general elections round the corner, joining of Ahmad Saeed, and previously ex-MNA Nawabzada Mazhar Ali Khan, ex-MPA and former Gujrat District Council Chairman Nawabzada Muzaffar Ali Khan, (both elder brothers of Ghazanfar Gull) is being seen as a big success for the PML-N. Ch Ahmad Saeed met Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif at the Model Town Secretariat here on Monday and announced his joining the PML-N, quitting the PPP. The Sharifs warmly welcomed Ch Ahmad Saeed in the party while expressing the hope that the party will get a big boost in Gujrat by this decision.During the meeting with Nawaz Sharif, Ahmad Saeed also discussed the political situation and held the view that given the current crisis faced by the country on economic, political and social sides, it is Nawaz Sharif who can provide relief to the masses. Nawaz Sharif stated on the occasion that his party has no lust for power but its aim is to serve the masses and seek prosperity and welfare of the common man. One of the most significant objectives of the PML-N, he said, is to root out corruption which the PPP rulers had been carrying out everywhere in the country.Nawaz blamed the govt for framing wrong and anti-people policies which generated constant price-hike, unemployment, loadshedding and unrest in the country. Amid the problems galore, the rulers are enjoying a lavish and luxurious life at the expense of the State exchequer, he added.Meanwhile, sources in the party claim that after Ch Saeed, another big wig of Gujrat is also expected to change loyalties in favour of PML-N as President Asif Ali Zardari is not inclined to accommodate the PPP traditional contestants in Gujrat due to the Chaudhrys of Gujrat who now form alliance with the PPP in the Federal Government.Sources say the said alliance has proved adverse for the PPP, as its support in Gujrat has shrunk considerably after a number of party voters have switched over either to the PML-N or the PTI over the last couple of months. Sources further stated that some main members of Paghanwala family are also in touch with the PML-N and an important political decision from them is, forthcoming in the near future. The PML-N sources also claim that PML-Q senior leader from Jhang, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Owais Leghari and Jamal Leghari from Dera Ghazi Khan, who had joined the PTI switching over from PML-Q, are having negotiations with the PML-N to decide on joining the party. An announcement on this count, they said, is expected after return of Nawaz Sharif from a visit to Europe expected in the first week of next month. Nawaz Sharif during his stay in France is scheduled to address a party convention in Paris and also has political engagements in London. He is expected to stay abroad for over a week.
