Parties invite PPP to SPLGO talks

KARACHI - The PML-F, PML-Q and NPP ministers on Monday invited the ruling PPP for a debate on the ‘controversial’ Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance 2012, asserting that they had tendered resignations to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in the presence of the media.
Addressing a joint news conference, PML-F’s Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh and Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, PML-Q’s Shaharyar Mahar and NPP’s Naeemur Rehman announced their support to the protest call given by the nationalists for tomorrow (September 26) to block the national and super highways connecting Sindh with other provinces.
They, however, rejected the claim of Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah that their resignations did not reach the Governor’s House, saying that they handed their resignations to the chief minister in front of the media.
They also announced that they would move a joint application to the Sindh Assembly speaker for the allotment of opposition seats. “Later, we will nominate the leader of the opposition,” they added. The PML-F, PML-Q and NPP leaders contended that the PPP had divided the province through the ordinance and hence the doors had been closed to rejoin the ruling coalition.
They said the ruling PPP, which claimed to be the champion of rights and democracy, imposed a new law through an ordinance, as they knew that their own lawmakers would oppose it.
They criticised the government, saying that whilst in the coalition set-up, the ruling PPP always ignored their parties and kept on beating the drum of reconciliation.
They also challenged the PPP for an open debate on the ordinance.
