UN declares Pakistan poppy-free country

islamabad : The United Nations has declared Pakistan poppy-free country but said it is used as a route for smuggling of drugs worth 30 billion dollars from Afghanistan. UN representatives on Monday told media about the annual report on crimes and drugs that poppy crops are not being cultivated in Pakistan.

They said Pakistan was a major route for the smuggling of Afghan drugs and its provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been facing challenge in this regard.
The UN said in its report that one-third of Afghan drugs are smuggled to other countries via Pakistani coastal areas of Balochistan.
