Asfandyar urges state organs to work within limits

PESHAWAR - Awami National Party Chief Asfandyar Wali Khan has said that a wave of uncertainty and misunderstanding has been created by some elements in the country, but no one will be allowed to derail the democratic process.

He said ANP would not favour any unconstitutional move in this regard. “Constitution has clearly mentioned the jurisdiction of each and every organ of the state, so every institution should work within its own sphere to avoid confrontation,” Asfandyar Wali Khan remarked while addressing a mammoth public gathering on the eve of 24th death anniversary of Bacha Khan and 6th death anniversary of Khan Abdul Wali Khan here at Tehmash Stadium, Peshawar.
KP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour, provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, ANP provincial General Secretary Arbab Tahir and district Peshawar President Arbab Najeebullah were also present on the occasion.
Asfandyar Wali Khan said he was proud that despite deteriorating law and order situation, the party workers gathered in a huge number to pay tributes to non-violent philosopher Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Khan Abdul Wali Khan. He said by the grace of God, he presently fulfilled all the dreams of their forefathers, adding that these achievements included renaming of the province, provision of employment opportunities to people and hindering Kala Bagh Dam project for being not in the interest of Pakhtuns. He congratulated the party workers that Federal Government had given approval to renaming the Peshawar Air Fort as Bacha Khan International Airport and thanked the members of KP Assembly for passed a resolution for this purpose.
Linking peace in Pakistan with that in Afghanistan, Asfandyar said that both the governments should not allow the foreigners to use their soil against each other, adding that a few decades back their leaders predicted bad consequences of owning wars of others.
Inviting militants to dialogue table, he said if they could not lay down their arms and considered it a Pakhtun tradition, they should accept the government writ and shun their violent activities.  Appreciating the educational projects of Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, Asfandyar Wali Khan said under the chief ministership of Ameer Hiader Khan Hoti, ANP government spread a network of educational institutions in the province. He said this was one of the ANP major dreams to educationally empower Pakhtuns.
Paying tributes to late Bacha Khan and Abdul Wali Khan, ANP KP President Afrasiab Khattak said that ANP workers followed in the footprints of their leaders and rendered sacrifices of lives of 500 valuable workers.
He said owing to these sacrifices, 2.3 million people joined the party during the party’s recent membership campaign.
Addressing on the occasion, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti said that his government gave identity to Pakhtuns by renaming the province as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and securing provincial autonomy through 18th Constitutional Amendment. He further said under NFC Award, extra resources had been collected from the centre and they were being used on development.
 He said that ANP government allocated Rs 2 billion for Bacha Khan Khfal Rozgar Scheme while 3.30 billion were allocated for Arbab Sikandar Khan Road.
He said that now Federal Government was paying Rs 6 billion annually in the head net hydel profit which is insufficient, however further demand would be made from the federal govt in this regard.
