ISLAMABAD - In unprecedented move on Thursday, Islamabad police booked officials of Strategic Planning Division (SPD) of armed forces on charges of killing a pedestrian and injuring five others.
According to details that was made public by Islamabad capital territory police on directions of Senior Superintendent Islamabad police, officials of Strategic Planning Division of armed forces allegedly shot dead a resident of Islamabad and injured as many as five others who were rushed to hospital.
According to police officials, it started on September 24, 2013. As yasir, driver of a pickup van bearing registration No IDS-8900, stopped his vehicle near Lal Pull (red bridge) to drop some of the students, he was carrying, security men of Strategic Planning Division (SPD) asked him not to stop there due to sensitivity of area. Rather, they advised the driver to go ahead a few yard to drop the students. However, yar refused to do so that prompted the security men to subject to torture at the spot.
“The officials of SPD subjected me to torture and fled from the scene leaving me unconscious at the scene,” Yasir reported to Nilore Police Station.
As soon as the officials of SPD fled the scene, a dozens of residents and shop-keepers approached the scene and blocked the road for hours shouting against SPD and armed forces.
According police officials, blockade of roads by the Protestants prompted Station House Officer of Nilore Police Station to reach scene aimed to defuse the tension. As Najeeb Shah, SHO of Nilore Police Station and representations of protesters started negotiations, officials of SPD reached the scene again and started indiscriminate firing at protestants, as a result seven of them, including Shafqat kaleem, Khurum Rasheed, Yasir, Gulzeb Sharakat Ali and Nazakat Hussein received bullet injuries and were rushed to PIMS. According to police, Khurum Rasheed succumbed to injuries in hospital and died.
Nilore police station, after receiving a formal application, registered a case under section 302/324 and 148/149 PPC against 25/30 officials and started investigating the case.
