NORTH WAZIRISTAN - Gunmen shot dead a senior tribal journalist and president of Miranshah Press Club here on Wednesday.
Mumtaz graduated from Gomal University in Dera Ismail Khan. A few days back, he was elected as president of Miranshah Press Club. The victim is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
A TTP spokesman has condemned killing of Mumtaz and denied any involvement. “He was a good reporter and was serving tribal people, we condemn his killing and salute his services for tribal people,” TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said.

According to the press campaign group Reporters Without Borders, Pakistan was the third deadliest country for journalists in 2012, behind Syria and Somalia, with 10 journalists killed discharging their duties. All journalists’ associations have strongly condemned the incident and demanded of the government to nab the elements behind the killing.
Many tribal journalists have shifted to other areas over security concerns. Tribal Union of Journalists has also strongly condemned the brutal murder of Mumtaz and demanded of the local authorities to investigate the incident.
