No PML-Q member submitted nomination papers to be pitted against Pervaiz Elahi and Zaheeruddin in the party’s Punjab chapter elections that were held at the Muslim League House on Wednesday. The PML-Q General Council has authorised Pervaiz Elahi to nominate the office-bearers for the remaining positions. It has also mandated the re-elected president to make similar nominations for other tiers of the party offices.
In his address to his loyalists, Pervaiz Elahi, who is also the deputy prime minister, claimed the PML-Q had completed its fourth intra-party polls following the democratic rules. Claiming his party to be a true democratic group, the former Punjab chief minister maintained that the party polls were held in a transparent manner, in which each party worker participated enthusiastically. Criticising the incumbent provincial government’s performance, Pervaiz Elahi said its officials had confirmed voter status of those students selected for laptops.
The PML-Q provincial president also said that he along with his party men held successful public meetings in South, North and Central Punjab, while big public moots would be held on March 1 in Hafizabad and March 14 in Jhang.
Meanwhile, no noteworthy leader of the PML-Q belonging to the Punjab was present at the Muslim League House on the day of the polls. Some important PML-Q leaders, while commenting over the party polls, said it was a sham exercise and just an ‘eyewash’ in the name of the intra-party polls, as there was not a single member in the party, including them, who dared challenge the dynastic politics. A senior leader of the Forward Bloc, a splinter group of the PML-Q, said the PML-Q had been left only with the servants of the Chaudhrys of Gujrat.
