DCO raps apathy to market Pakistani mango

SADIQABAD - Organised by Agriculture Department and the district administration, the eighth annual Mango Show and competition concluded in Rahim Yar Khan where an award distribution ceremony was held at the conclusion.

Addressing the ceremony, DCO Dr Javed Ashraf said that Pakistani mango has distinguished place across the world because of its delicious taste and standard. However, he added, the Pakistani farmers of the fruit were unable to take advantage of the qualities because of inappropriate marketing at the international markets.
He said the purpose of the show was to help introduce Pakistan mango especially that of Rahim Yar Khan at the national and international levels and to reduce the farmers’ problems by increasing imports. He also mentioned the efforts being made by the district administration and department.
He said that the Punjab government was focusing the fruit’s exports and for this purpose the farmers were being facilitated. He said that the Punjab government would soon organise a mango seminar in Islamabad where progress-loving farmers would be invited.
Earlier, in his welcome address, DO (Agriculture) Javed Iqbal said that the Punjab produces 62 percent out of total production of the fruit while Rahim Yar Khan is at number two after Multan across the province in this regard.
The ceremony was also addressed by PML-N district president Mian Khalid Shaheen, Market Committee Chairman Muhammad Shafiq, Ashfaq Khan Advocate and others. To the farmers who performed well, trophies and cash awards were distributed by the DCO, EDO Zahoor Hussain, Rana Sher Afghan, Mehmoudul Hassan Bukhari, Ismaeel and Moeenuddin Hashmi.  Those won the awards included Muhammad Imran as first position holder in Anwar Ratol category, Asif second and Ashraf remained third in the competition. The other awards winners were Hassan Mehmoud, M Umair, Shaukat, Ali Akbar, M Qasim, M Kashif, Aslam, Arshad Ali, Azam, Waqas, Shaukat, M Akram, Khalilur Rehman, Mehmoudul Hassan, Abdul Majeed, Mureed Abbas, Munir Ahmad, Abdul Ghaffar, Karam Hussain, M Shahid, Abdul Rehman and others.
At the conclusion, many guests and speakers were presented shields.
