Woman dies, 2 cops hurt in grenade attack in Karachi

KARACHI – A woman was killed while about a dozen people including two policemen wounded when gangsters threw hand grenade on a police party in Dalmia locality of Aziz Bhatti Police Station on Wednesday.
Tension prevailed in Dalmia locality after the attack. The heavy contingent of law enforcers including Rangers and police reached the crime scene when gangsters associated with Lyari gang managed to abduct a cop namely Naveed.
DSP Pervez Iqbal Bhatti said that as soon as the police mobile van entered in Mujahid Colony, the armed gangsters threw hand grenade at the police mobile van.  The armed gangsters also held the constable Naveed hostage at gunpoint. Law enforcement agencies managed to rescue Naveed and also claimed to have arrest six suspects from Ptail Para area.
Victims included 40-year-old Shakila, wife of Dilawar, Naseeb Gul, 40, son of Alif Khan, Safdar, 20, son of Khalid, Siraj, 21, son of Sami, Mohammad Junaid, 18, son of Altaf, Abdul Waheed, 19,son of Rasheed, Shehzad, 7, son of Ghulam Mohammad, his brother Rustam, 10, Sultan, 12, son of Abbas, Sunny, 5, son of Jan Mohammad, Faisal, 8, son of Siddique and two policeman namely Naveed, 40, son of Hanif and Sub-Inspector Mashooq, 50, son of Gul Hussain. The injured were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where Shakila succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Meanwhile, three bandits were killed in a shootout near Guru Mandir area by a police party chasing them following a burglary at a house in PECHS area late on Wednesday night.
Police said the Ferozabad Police received complaint through police helpline that armed bandits had just left a home after committing robbery worth millions that led to their chase.
ASP Ferozabad Ghulam Murtaza Malik said that the police finally spotted the car and suspects in one of the society’s blocks. He said that our team tried to stop the car but came under the armed attack that triggered car chase. We finally intercepted them near Guru Mandir and the two sides also exchanged gunfire near Noor Masjid in PECHS.
He said as the bandits reached near Jamia Binoria at Guru Mandir, they were stucked in the traffic jam. Finding themselves trapped, they attacked the police which sparked firing.
Officer said more police force joined us that strengthened our side and after brief exchange of gunfire, all the three suspects were killed while all the policemen remained unhurt.
He said all three bandits remained unidentified and claimed to have recovered four pistols as well as cash and valuables.
