KARACHI – At least eight people were killed in drive-by shooting here on Monday.
A former worker of outlawed Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan was shot dead in Korangi area within the jurisdictions of Awami Colony police station.
Police said that the victim namely Qari Khalid was sitting at his general store at Awami Colony when some unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle came close to him and started indiscriminate firing. He sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot. Police said that the victim was a former activist of outlawed SSP but was not currently affiliated with any party.
A worker of Sunni Tehreek namely Khalid Omair was shot dead in New Karachi area. Police said deceased was standing near a Pan Shop when two armed men riding a motorcycle targeted him to death. A two-year-old boy Ansar standing close to him was wounded in the incident. Police said that the deceased was recently released from the jail as he was involved in different criminal cases. A private garments’ factory owner was shot dead near MA Jinnah Road within the jurisdiction of Preedy police station.
Police said that deceased identified as Ahmer, son of Ikhlaq, was on way to home after withdrawing Rs2,50,000 from the bank when some armed men intercepted him and tried to steal the cash. Culprits shot him over resistance and managed to escape with the looted cash.
One Riaz Shaukat, 35, was shot dead and his two brothers Adnan and Kamran were wounded by some armed motorcyclists near Kashmir Road in Jamshed Quarters police precincts.
Police said that the victims namely Riaz Shaukat, 35, and his brother Adnan and Kamran were working in a private company. They were on their way to office at Sharah-e-Faisal when the incident took place. Police have yet to ascertain the motive behind the killing. A suspect bandit Tariq Owais was shot dead near Guru Mandir within the remits of Soldier Bazaar police station.
Police suspected that his own companions might killed him over monetary dispute.
A labourer Akbar, son of Afzal, was shot dead in Baldia Town within the jurisdictions of Saeedabad police station. Police said two armed men riding a motorcycle were behind the incident while the motive behind the incident had yet to be ascertained. At least six-day-old body of a youth was found from nullah in Saddar area in Mithadar police precincts. Police said that the body was shifted to morgue for identification.
Meanwhile, former president of Karachi Electronic Market Irfan Siddique who was wounded on January 24 by the firing of unknown assailants near Matric Board office succumbed to injuries at a private hospital here on Monday.
Karachi Electronic Market association has suspended all the commercial activities in protest against the killing of Irfan. The victim’s funeral prayer was offered in the area of North Nazimabad. He was laid to rest in Paposh Nagar graveyard.
