ISLAMABAD (Staff Reporter / Agencies) - Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Monday advised President Asif Ali Zardari not to accept the resignation of National Accountability Chairman (NAB) Admiral (r) Fasih Bokhari.
Sources said the NAB chairman had sent his resignation to the President House and a high level meeting of PPP leadership under the chair of President was mulling over to either accept his resignation or postpone it for the time being.
During the telephonic conversation, the PML-Q chief said that change of the NAB chairman at the moment when elections were nearing would be spoiled by the politics of different parties.
Shujaat further said that the chairman was under pressure amid high profile investigations and to avoid any mishap with elections nearing, the chairman should himself withdraw his resignation. Earlier on Monday morning, Fasih Bokhari, in a letter to President Asif Ali Zardari, stated that NAB officers were under pressure from the Supreme Court as they were not being given enough time to investigate cases and to implement court’s orders.
Bokhari’s letter that came to fore over a week after one of NAB’s investigators in the rental power projects case who allegedly committed suicide had also voiced his reservations over the role of the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, President Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf Monday night exchanged views over the letter Chairman NAB had written to the President, sources said. Although there was no official word about the meeting issued either by the Aiwan-e-sadr or Prime Minister Secretariat till filing of this report, sources said the two leaders also discussed the overall situation in the country with main focus on creation of a new province as well as the caretaker government.
Some sources also maintained that a group of senior PPP leaders including federal ministers also called on the President and exchanged views on various issues including creation of new province and caretaker setup.
