HAFIZABAD - Most parts of the district received first heavy monsoon downpour which brought a sigh of relief to residents, who had been braving sweltering heat with prolonged power outages.The rain started after Sehri and continued for three hours. However, it created multiple problems for the citizens. The rainwater gushed into houses and lanes and worst affected were those dwelling in Garhi Awan area and around the Circular Road. There was knee-deep water accumulated in various Chowks for four hours. “Thanks” to the ill-planning of roads department, who while widening the roads raised the pedestal of the roads and streets resultantly the localities which were at one or two feet high than the streets and roads turned below the roads and streets, creating problems for the dweller. According to Agriculture expert and growers, heavy rain has brightened the quality paddy production and would facilitate the plantation of saplings of Basmati and Kernal varieties of paddy.Locals urged the TMA to do something needful for improving the drainage system.
