After committing the crime, the Patwari identified as Zaheer Ahmed, however, managed to escape the scene whereas a case has been registered against him while the victim was brought to a local hospital for medical, informed Sub Inspector (SI) Ghulam Shabbir, who is probing the case, on Thursday.
Quoting the statement of the victim, Tahira, 32, hailing from Miana Mohra, the SI said that she was going to her home when suddenly entrapped by heavy dust storm and rain.
He said that she took refuge under the wall of the Revenue Office located at Railway Road, near Aisha Masjid, when the chowkidar of the office asked her to come inside as the weather condition was getting harsh.
The SI added that as the woman stepped inside the room, the staff of Revenue Officer locked the door from inside while Zaheer Ahmed, the Patwari, allegedly raped her. According to him, a man Qaiser Mehmood, whose house was located in front of the Revenue Officer’s, was seeing the entire saga, who, after hearing the noise of the woman, immediately alerted the other villagers.
Within no time, more than 150 villagers gathered outside the house of Revenue Office and rescued the woman by breaking the doors.
Zaheer Patwari got confused on this sudden action of the villagers as he pulled out his pistol and opened fire, which hit Qaiser’s arm injuring him slightly; the SI said adding that Zaheer while brandishing his pistol managed to escape from the scene.
The police immediately moved the injured person to a local hospital for medical treatment while the woman for medical test.
A case was registered against Zaheer Patwari on the complaint of Qaiser Mehmood, who sustained bullet injury.
According to SI Ghulam Shabbir, several police parties have been constituted which were conducting raids at different localities to arrest the Revenue Officer.
