The flood protection walls will not only protect and reclaim acres of fertile agriculture land but also protect houses of these communities. The total length of the flood protection walls is 533 meters. The communities of Spalay Parn and Kotkai Alam Baig Kach are located near the main road towards District Zhob, Baluchistan and onwards to Afghanistan. These projects were completed by hiring skilled and unskilled local labour and using locally-available material to create sense of ownership in local population. The local community elders have thanked the government for responding to their basic needs in a timely fashion and expressed hope that the schemes would help ease their day-to-day hardship.
In addition, they hoped that such projects would help increase their livelihood opportunities at the local level, by enabling them to grow crops in their agricultural lands.
