SIALKOT - Police launched a massive crackdown against drug traffickers in village Gunjianwali, Uggoki and arrested 29 suspects, besides seizing a huge cache of narcotics.
“Now, we have purged the village from drugs and drug pushers,” the SHO claimed. SHO Rana Nadeem Tariq added that police have arrested as many as 29 narcotics-sellers including seven “big fish” namely Boota, Nadeem , Kaka, Zubair, Kashif, Waqas and Akhtar alias Kaaki.
He said that the police seized 8kg fine quality heroin, 13.5kg Charas and 40 bottles of liquor. Sialkot DPO Afzaal Ahmed Kausar has announced cash prizes and appreciation certificates for the raiding police party.
Timely completion of projects pledged: The Punjab government has evolved a strategy to ensure timely completion of the ongoing development projects including dualisation of the Sialkot-Daska-Gujranwala Road.
The other projects include construction of the Eastern Bypass, building of Govt Khawaja Safdar Medical College Sialkot and the establishment of Women University at Sialkot that will be complete on time on the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the district coordination officer said.
Addressing a meeting of the Sialkot based surgical instruments manufacturers and exporters held at Surgical Instruments Manufacturers Association of Pakistan, DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal said that the CM was taking keen interest in the uplift and beautification of city. He added that the city would soon be converted into a ‘City of Flowers’.
He assured the manufacturers and exporters that their prolonged perturbing problems and hurdles in the way of enhancing their exports would soon be resolved as the provincial government was committed to give a helping hand to surgical exporters, enabling them to increase the surgical exports from Sialkot to US $ 300 million annually from existing US$ 260 million.
The DCO added that the Punjab government had recently signed an agreement with the Turkish government for launching an advanced and international standard solid waste management project at Sialkot. The project is being successfully run in Turkish city Al-Kesari, he added.
This solid waste would also be used in preparing the gas in enough quantity to meet the gas-related demands and needs of the people of Sialkot district, the DCO added. He said that the early establishment of Sialkot Development Authority (SDA), as announced by the CM would also be helpful in jazzing up the pace of the trade, industrial and business activities in the district.
