Special kids face teachers’ shortage

GUJRANWALA- As many as 195 posts of teachers and other staff are lying vacant in 24 Special Education Schools which are functional out of 34 such schools in Gujranwala division.

At these schools functional in rented buildings in the division, 2,571 deaf, dumb and mentally retarded students are getting education.
According to a survey, only one high school, five middle and 28 primary schools for special children are functioning in the division where as many as 165 mentally retarded students are being imparted education.
These students are facilitated to play and provided milk and monthly scholarship.
The special children are facing hardships in the schools due to lack of teachers and other staff. As many as 42 teachers are required in Gujranwala, 35 in Sialkot, 33 in Mandi Bahauddin, 32 in Hafizabad, 22 in Narowal and 32 in Gujrat in these schools.
Iram Shabbir from Government Institute of Blinds, People’s Colony, said that these schools require computer labs and instructors. Although a lot of facilities are being provided but a hefty amount is being spent in the shape of rent of these buildings. He urged philanthropists to come forward and give make donations for these schools.
