Peshawar blast kills top bomb disposal expert

PESHAWAR – An inspector of bomb disposal squad embraced martyrdom when he was attempting to defuse the explosive material here in Badhabera area on Friday. Sources said four high intensity explosive devices had been planted in Shekhan area where police were conducting routine search operation. The tragic incident happened on Frontier Road in Shekhan village when senior bomb disposal expert Hukam Khan tried to defuse the explosive device and directed other officials to stay away from the site. As he started examining the device it exploded with a bang. The blast inflicted critical injuries to Hukam and he succumbed to his wounds on the way to hospital. Two other police officials also sustained injuries and were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. Soon after the incident, a large number of police officials rushed to the blast site and defused three other explosive devices. Police started a grand search operation in the area and arrested three suspects. The suspects were later shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. The funeral prayers of Inspector Hukam Khan were offered in Peshawar Police Lines where Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other high-ranking officials were present to pay homage to the martyr. After the funeral prayers, body of the martyr was shifted to his native village where he was laid to rest.
