I am only guilty of protecting Constitution: Gilani

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said that he could not face two courts at the same time.

Speaking in the Senate here Monday, he said that Nawaz Sharif could not run the government despite having second opportunity.
He said that Nawaz Sharif should take responsible steps as country was passing from crucial situation. He said he is not the beneficiary of the NRO and “My only fault is that I am protecting the Constitution.”
On the PML-N's demand that he (Gilani) should resign after being convicted by the Supreme Court in the contempt of court case, he said, "I am a public representative and will not come or leave office on whims of Sharif courts. Why PML-N is in a hurry and not in a mood even to wait for detailed judgement of the apex court and exercise his right of appeal."
He said Nawaz Sharif had got the opportunity to govern the country with two-third majority but he could not. He said he could not pass any constitutional amendment during his tenure.
The Prime Minister clarified that the reason he was being targeted was because he was protecting the Constitution. “If I don’t protect the Constitution then I am the most popular person in the country,” Gilani added.
Prime Minister Gilani claimed that the PML-N was threatened by Imran Khan and feared that a vacuum would be created if he announced a long march before them.
Commenting on calls for his resignation, Gilani said he had no desire to remain in power and he should be de-notified if he was to be removed. “We don’t have a lust for power. We want to follow the Constitution”, he maintained.
He said that he was unanimously elected as prime minister by all parties including the PML-N.
The prime minister said that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif was afraid of Saraiki province and Imran Khan.
Gilani said he is ready to go back to Multan if the Supreme Court disqualified him. He said his party had stood by Mian Nawaz Sharif despite his conviction in plane hijacking case.
The prime minister said that Nawaz Sharif had left for Jeddah after entering into an agreement with Musharaf. Was that not NRO, he questioned? I did not benefit under the NRO, he maintained.
