ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued its final code of conduct for the general elections to be effective from the by-elections to be held in the coming days. The 46-point code of conduct does not contain any major changes with exception to allowing loudspeakers in the party meetings. The previous draft code did not allow use of loudspeakers during the election campaigns of the candidates. "Wall chalking as part of an election campaign shall be prohibited in all forms. Similarly use of loudspeakers shall not be allowed for election campaign except at the election meetings," says the changed provision on the use of loudspeakers. Last week, the ECP had approved the code of conduct and incorporated it as part of election laws. Last year, the ECP had introduced draft code of conduct and announced implementing it in the by-elections but serious violations of the code during the by-polls seriously undermined electoral body's claims. The ECP then stated that it implemented the code on 'test-case' basis while the final code of conduct would be implemented following consensus with the political parties.
