Countrywide protest demonstrations including federal capital against prolong and unscheduled spate of power loadshedding continued on Monday.
The citizens pestered by prolonged unannounced loadshedding in several areas including Torangzai and Shabqadar in Charsadda losing patience came out on the roads and streets in hundreds and staged demonstrations. The demonstrators venting their anger raised vociferous slogans against the government and staged sit-in, blocking the Peshawar-Charsadda Motorway near River Kabul.
The protesters demonstrated at Ring Road near Achini Bala area and blocked the road for traffic. The angry mob also chanted slogans against the government and Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO).
The residents of different suburban areas of Peshawar also protested against loadshedding at Motorway and blocked the road for traffic. They also damaged vehicles and chanted anti-government slogans.
Khyber Agency Headquarters Hospital Landikotal’s doctors resenting the power outages have announced observing indefinite strike. In Kohat, the enraged citizens blocked the Pindi road near grid station.
In Mandi Bahauddin, the demonstrators protesting loadshedding torched tyres and blocked the Sargodha-Gujrat road in Mangat area. Electricity supply remained suspended for the last four days at Mubarakpur in Bhawalpur, while the citizens in sizzling heat during the holy month of Ramazan kept staging protest demonstrations to no avail.
In Multan at Purana Vehari, the people angered by protracted loadshedding burnt tyres and raised slogans venting their anger.
The situation is no better in Sindh and Balochistan, as the citizens in different cities/towns like those in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab burst out on the roads/streets protesting loadshedding even during Iftar and Sehri times. Despite government claims of cutting short power outages, loadshedding continued for 10/12 hours in cities/towns and 16/18 hours in rural areas even in the month of Ramazan, while the faithful faced difficulties taking sehri in darkness.
Massive demonstration and protest against the prolonged loadshedding and water shortage in different areas of the city at Manghopir Road caused holdup in the traffic flow.
It should be mentioned here that water supply is suspended for several months now in different localities including Islamia Colony, Mianwali Colony, Balti Mohalla, Gilgiti Mohalla and Awan Colony and other adjoining areas.
The demonstrators complained that the power crisis coupled with the water scarcity made their lives miserable with no attention from Water Board management despite repeatedly lodging of complaints.
Accusing the Water Board of collusion with tanker mafia, the protesters demanded the closure of illegal hydrants.
The protest caused the blockage of traffic on Manghopir Road resulting in long queues of vehicles.
