ISLAMABAD – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, is likely to visit Russia in the next week, military sources said on Saturday.
The army chief is expected to leave for Moscow on next Wednesday. Kayani is scheduled to meet senior officials of the Russian government and military during his visit.  Discussions on the strategic cooperation between Pakistan and Russia would follow Kayani’s visit, added the officials.
The military has kept the visit on a low key and has not publicly confirmed the exact date of Kayani’s departure to Moscow fearing American opposition, the military sources said.
Last month, Kayani told the media at a gathering that he would visit Russia No official confirmation or denial regarding the reports of the army chief’s visit to Russia has so far come from the army.
