ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court Saturday issued notices to Begum Shehnaz Sheikh, Ghulam Mujtaba Rai and Rehman Malik regarding the dual nationality.
The notice was issued to Begum Shehnaz Sheikh as a reporter of an English newspaper has alleged she holds Australian nationality. Also, a report about MNA Ghulam Mujtaba Rai asserted that he is a Canadian national.
The court ordered him to appear and confirm whether he has dual nationality, and if so, is he not disqualified under article 63(1)(c) of the constitution?
Interior Minister Senator Rehman Malik was directed to appear and produce list of federal parliamentarians and members of provincial assemblies, as he had alleged that a number of other lawmakers were dual nationals but they had not been disqualified by the apex court.
The minister also said that if asked by the Supreme Court or the government, he could supply the names of such lawmakers. The information secretary was directed to submit transcript of Rehman Malik’s September 2o, 21 press talks on the issue on or before October 2 for the perusal and using them in the court, if need be.
