Kaira asks Shahbaz not to politicise loadshedding

MUZAFFARGARH : Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Monday asked the Punjab chief minister to avoid doing politics on the issue of loadshedding. Talking to media in Muzaffargarh, he said under the 18th amendment‚ the provinces had been empowered to generate electricity on their own. To a question‚ Kaira said the government had started short‚ medium and long-term measures to overcome the electricity crisis.

He also said no power plant running on fuel was closed due to the shortage of oil, adding that supply of oil to the plants had been increased to 25,000 metric tonne from 12,000 metric tonne to operate the power plants to their optimum capacity.
The information minister said windstorm damaged main transmission lines of 500 KV and 220 KVs in Muzaffargarh‚ causing a loss of 1,800 megawatt, adding that two lines had been restored, which added 1,100 megawatt of electricity to the national grid.
By this evening‚ 350 power plant of Lal Peer would also be restored. Besides two power plants of Chashma had also resumed production, which improved and stabilised power generation capacity, he added.
