LAHORE–The Council of Common Interests (CCI) on Wednesday told the Lahore High Court that it was just waiting for the permission of the Federal government for construction of the Kalabagh Dam.

The CCI submitted its reply in response to a petition seeking construction of the Kalabagh Dam. ‘We have sent to the government our recommendations for the construction of the Dam as we have no objections on it’, the reply added.
It further said that the CCI would start the construction of the dam when the government would permit it to do that.
After reviewing the reply of CCI, Justice Umar Ata Bandial issued notices to Federal and provincial governments and directed them to submit reply till June 11th.
The petitioner had submitted the Kalabagh Dam project would reduce the power burden and water shortage and was ,therefore, vital for stability of the country.
‘The country was facing serious energy crisis due to which the economy of the country is near to destruction. Billions of cusecs water had been wasted due to non-availability of the dams in the country’, the petitioner added.
