DERA
GHAZI KHAN - A militant was killed while four others were arrested in an operation carried out at a
religious seminary in the wee hours on Saturday near Shadan Lund.
Police have also claimed recovering a large quantity of explosive material, anti-personnel mines and
hand-grenades from a mini-truck parked within the premises of the seminary, while 0.9 million rupees were also
taken into custody.
Police authorities are of the view that the deceased might have close links with Baitullah Mehsud, chief of
banned outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Addressing a news conference at the Police Lines on Saturday afternoon, Regional Police Officer (RPO)
Mubarak Ali Athar flanked by DPO Dr Muhammad Rizwan said after receiving information through reliable
sources, a heavy contingent of police comprising of Kala, Taunsa and Kot Mubarak Police Stations along with
elite force headed by District Police Officer Dr Muhammad Rizwan cordoned off Madrassa Dar-ul-Uloom
Usmania at Basti Bait Shadan at 2:00 am. As the terrorists saw law enforcing personnel, they started
indiscriminate fire, which continued for over two hours.
The RPO said as result, a suspected commander, Abdullah, was killed on the spot while police officials
remained unhurt. Four extremists had been arrested after the shootout, he added.
He further informed reporters that 1440 rounds of LMG, 11 kg highly explosive material, 15 time fuses, 16 rocket
launcher fuses, 8 grenade launchers, 6 anti-personnel mines, 4 belt machine guns and other ammunition from
the mini truck (JY 2753 Sindh). These weapons were hidden beneath woods in the vehicle, he added.
The RPO also told journalists that anti-personal mines had been used in the recent suicide attacks.
Replying to a query, he said it was premature to say that the dead and arrested persons were associated with
Bait ullah Mehsud but such possibility could not be ruled out.
It is important to note police have disclosed the identity two terrorists, Qari Majeed and Haji Musa, while the
names of the remaining two are being kept confidential.
All the arrested persons are being interrogated.
It must also be mentioned that the truck loaded with arms and explosive material crossed a number of check
posts before reaching the seminary, which is located some 60 kms north of the district headquarter, DG Khan,
near Shadan Lund in a deserted area with scattered population.
