September 30, 2008

Oppo sition Leader in the National Assembly Ch Nisar Ali Khan has demanded a thorough debate in the Parliament after Eid on law and order situation in the country, foreign policy and economic situation to devise an overall national policy in this regard, reported a private TV channel. Addressing a Press conference in Islamabad on Monday, he said that the country was facing serious challenges including extremism and terrorism and there was a need to evolve a common strategy to face these challenges. He said it would have been better if President Asif Ali Zardari took the Parliament into confidence prior to proceeding on visit to the United States. Referring to Marriott Hotel blast, he said it is a failure of intelligence and security agencies and emergency services. To a question, he said that if there was destabilisation in the Punjab, it would also impact in the Centre. APP adds: Ch Nisar urged the govt to summon a joint session of parliament for holding detailed discussion on the issues. He said the PML-N will requisite the joint sitting of parliament, if the govt dos not do so. He said instead of taking dictation from abroad , there was a  need of chalking out indigenous policies which protect people's rights. He said they want to see the democratic system succeed and their alliance with PPP will continue in Punjab province to save the system from disintegration. He said they would not accept any donation or aid which undermine the sovereignty of the country and linked with fulfilling undesirable conditions of IMF and war on terrorism. Nisar said that the PML-N welcomed Asif Ali Zardari as President and the Opposition would criticise the govt policies not individuals.
