May 19, 2009

TEHRAN (Agencies) - Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran MB Abbasi on Monday said that the Tehran summit of the Iranian, Afghan and Pakistani presidents has been rescheduled for May 24.
Ambassador Abbasi told the Tehran Times that President Asif Ali Zardari informed him about the new dates for the planned summit. The three presidents plan to hold discussions on ways to deal with extremism and drug trafficking in the region during the meeting, he added.
The summit was originally scheduled for May 19 but was delayed due to the busy programme of President Zardari. The reconstruction of Afghanistan will also be on the agenda of the meeting.
The three leaders met less than three months ago in the Iranian capital Tehran for a regional economic summit, along with leaders and officials of other neighbouring states.
At that summit, the ten members Economic Cooperation Organisation pledged to help rebuild Afghanistan and the Gaza Strip.
Iranian officials also attended the international conference on Afghanistan in The Hague on March 31.
