Mourners observe 9th of Muharram today

LAHORE - The 9th of Muharram, a day before the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions, will be observed today (Wednesday).
The day signifies the culmination of Karbala episode when Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions finally fight the brutal forces the very next day - 10th of Muharram - for the cause of justice, truth and righteousness.
Zuljannah processions will be brought out from various Imambargahs including Pando Street, Islampura where a number of small processions will join the main procession. The main procession will march on Alamgir Road, Civil Secretariat, Church Road, Old Anarkali, Edward Road and will terminate at Azakhana Edward Road from where it will travel back to Pando street in the evening.
The authorities have made special security arrangements for the day. All the roads leading to lower Mall Road, Old and New Anarkali and Kutchery Road will be closed down for general traffic.
Meanwhile “Alam” processions were taken out on 8th of Moharram signifying the martyrdom of Hazrat Abbas Alamdar (AS), the step brother of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) who was martyred at the age of 32 at Karbala while bringing drinking water for the companions of Hazrat Imam Hussain for whom the water was stopped from the river of Euphrat by the forces of Ibne Ziad. Hazrat Abbas laid down his life while fighting the enemy forces alone. The bravery, courage, patience and faithfulness of Hazrat Abbas will be remembered for all times to come. The Alam and Zuljannah processions travelled on their traditional routes. In the City the processions and majalis were held at hundreds of places in the Walled City, Islampura, Shadman, Gulberg, Bund Road, Thokar Niaz Beg, Imamia Colony, New Anarkali, Nisbet Road, Abbot Road, Bibi Pakdaman at Empress Road and Lahore Cantt.
